A typical day of railfanning for me starts out in Solvay, NY at CP293 on CSX's water level route. In Solvay CSX interchanges with the Finger Lakes RR and the New York, Susquehanna & Western RR, so you can sometimes see a lot of action there. I got there around 10:00 this morning, then went to DeWitt, came back and noticed that the Geneva-Solvay turn was there. When it was obvious that they were leaving and heading back to Geneva, I decided to make the chase! Here they are approaching Vinegar Hill Road at 13:06. |

After dropping a blue, excess height boxcar and a gondola a couple miles behind, the train is back on route for Geneva here at 14:05. This is a favorite spot of mine where the tracks are parallel with Canoga Rd. for about a half-mile. It's right behind the Finger Lakes mall. |

After catching NYS&W train CL-1 in Tully, I had to check out what was going on with the Finger Lakes RR. Two weeks ago they ran an old Conrail unit (still blue) on this train, and I've been looking for it ever since. Fifteen minutes before this, I was looking for them over in Solvay; they were'nt there. So I back-tracked over to this spot at Martisco and within five minutes they were here! |
