I've had a really dry spell recently in my efforts to catch anything other than CSX units leading trains on the "water level route". So when I heard these guys calling signals and talking with dispatch, I hit the road! I could have set up for a better shot if it was'nt for the 15 seconds we were held at a nearby red light. By the way, the CITX 2792 is leading the K408 here. |

I broke away from the action at CP293 to check out the Q620 coming off the St. Lawrence-sub. The Q620 went from the wye at CP291 to track 1, then over to track 2, then over to track 7! Usually they do a crew change on track 8, the north runner, but a track maintenance crew was on 8. That totally messed-up my plans for a photo...oh well. So on the way back to CP293 I checked out the Susie-Q trackage and found this lease trio! |

Last year the Finger Lakes railway began leasing these "bluebirds" and now regularly use them on there GS-2 train..........aka the sweep train. Here we see them descending the grade at Martisco as they work their way toward Solvay yard. As you can see they're on welded rail here; at a point not!far west from here the rail is jointed all the way to Geneva. Historically speaking this is the Auburn Road, and it's one of the oldest railroads in the USA. A long time ago there wsed to be a branch from here to Otisco; if you look hard enough you can trace the line still to this day. |
