With their work done here at Birds Eye, the crew is getting ready to head back to the small yard in Baldwinsville. This track used to go further north and into Oswego, but not anymore. You might notice in the background behind the train, that the road has been paved right over the tracks. In fact, the rail was never lifted, it's still there all the way to Oswego. You just have to look through the weeds and trees to find it. Also, at several crossings along the way, old cross-buck signals are still in place even though the road is paved over the tracks! |

I would have loved to hang around and watch them finish the job and follow them back to Baldwinsville, NY. I've been trying for a long time to catch these guys here and document the operation, but until today I was unlucky. Birds Eye says that they're closing this facility within the next year or so, and I've also heard that as a result CSX might "cut the line back" to Baldwinsville.......Bummer! |

Even though I thought I was lucky to catch this local here this evening, I did'nt think that the sun was working with me. I snapped off about 20 photos in 10 minutes here. The best part was when they cut a car loose from the string coupled to the power, and let it roll downgrade (northbound) and slam into the string of cars set-out on the mainline! Anyway, I posted two other photos in different albums if you're interested in some other angles. And, one more thing...the train is occupying the St. Lawrence sub...and the track to the left goes north up through Phoenix and onto the east side of Fulton and Oswego, and all the way to the Lake Ontario shoreline at the Port of Oswego! |

As the B973 shoves 18 cars into a siding, engine 2709 slowly brings its two car consist back into position beside the station. The B777 had to move just north of the Buckley Road bridge in order for the rear of B973 to clear the switch for the siding. |
